Top Tips on How to Ward Off Anxiety Attacks

Experiencing some form of anxiety or anxiousness in stressful situations is a common emotion that we have all felt at some point or another. However, it is when these feelings are amplified and become debilitating that it is referred to as an anxiety attack. If you happen to suffer from this condition, you'll know it's no fun at all. Furthermore, if you're looking for helpful tips to overcome those dreaded anxiety attacks, then you need to look no further. Here, Cherished Voices Counselling Services shares some top tips on how to avoid them.

Address the problem-

Often, anxiety attacks can be traced to a specific stressful event or time in one's life that brings upon such feelings of helplessness. However, it is through addressing the problem or cause of your anxiety attacks head-on that you get to take back control of whatever it is that may subconsciously be bothering you. Exercise- even when you don't feel like it

Regular exercise has been proven to be highly effective at reducing anxiety attacks by releasing feel-good endorphins that help counteract feelings of anxiety. Furthermore, exercise is a natural remedy for anxiety and depression and, if applied routinely, can have a long-lasting positive impact on anxiety attacks.

Follow a wholesome diet - Interestingly enough, the type of food you consume can have a direct impact on your anxiety levels. According to research, processed foods and food high in sugar and fats can make you more prone to feeling anxious or depressed. On the other hand, following a wholesome diet consisting of fresh fruit and vegetables and foods high in fiber can do the opposite and help to alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety for the better.

Avoid anxiety-inducing substances Avoiding anxiety-inducing substances is yet another way to prevent or reduce anxiety attacks. Such substances can include alcohol, cigarettes, excessive sugar, and caffeine. So again, the key to maintaining a healthier anxiety-free lifestyle lies in making small but impactful lifestyle changes that can help to reduce your anxiety attacks both now and in the long term.

Take up a relaxing activity or two Whether it's relaxing in the glorious outdoors, doing a hobby that is calming and stress-free, or something as simple as listening to music, sometimes it's the simplest things that can do wonders for our mind.

Create a relaxing atmosphere The home should function as a place of respite. If you have an abundance of clutter, lots of disorganization and it’s been a while since you put forth a thorough cleaning, making an effort to revise your space can go a long way toward boosting your mental health and offering a boost of positivity.

Seek professional help In some cases, anxiety attacks can become so debilitating that they can be difficult to manage alone. In such cases, seeking professional help in this area may be the next logical alternative to help you overcome it. Cherished Voices Counselling Services can provide you with the perspective you need to clarify your situation and give you the tools and coping mechanisms you need to talk and walk yourself through your attacks.

Anxiety affects people of all ages It may be surprising to know that anxiety attacks don't just affect adults. In fact, children are just as susceptible to anxiety. But, again, many of the same principles used to reduce anxiety attacks in adults can be applied to children, such as encouraging healthier eating and sleep habits, exercise, limiting sugar and caffeine, etc. And then, of course, showing your love, concern, and support as only you know how as a parent will go a long way in helping them overcome this debilitating illness.

All things are possible... In conclusion, all things are possible and possible to overcome if you have the right tools and resources at your disposal, this and knowing that you are not fighting this fight alone. That and taking comfort in the fact that many people have managed to overcome anxiety attacks and so can you.
